Updates to Health and Physical Education Curriculum

The New Jersey Department of Education recently introduced changes to the Comprehensive Health and Physical Education Standards for K-12. The Rockaway Township School District recently updated our curriculum in grades K-8 to align with those standards. That new curriculum can be found here.

In an effort to be as transparent with the community as possible, we recently presented in public and through a live stream how the district is teaching these new standards. To help parents understand these changes, we've also included links to the presentations and resources below.

It is also important to note that, unlike all other New Jersey State Learning Standards, the N.J.S.A. 18A:35-4.7 permits a child to be excused from “any part of the instructions in health, family life education, or sex education [which] is in conflict with [a parent/guardian’s] conscience, or sincerely held moral or religious beliefs.” If you choose to opt your child out of the Family Life topics, please use this form to do so RTSD Health Opt Out 23-24.
